I went to David's...

So i wanted to recap my experience at the infamous David's Bridal Salon. I have heard so many different things about David's, but i figured, my own experience would have to be the deciding factor of whether or not i found anything I liked there.

My cousin got her dress there and it was gorgeous on her... I also know of a few others who have recently purchased their dresses there, and they are beautiful!

My first time at David's was a few weeks ago to try on some bridesmaid dresses. I did kind of feel a little puppy mill like and not really too surprised at how quickly they wanted us to come in and out.  My second time was last friday after our Filene's Adventure!  They actually told me "do not grab any dresses, you can look but you can't try any on".  To which i was a little offended... WHAT? then WHAT is the Point?

So, I made an appointment for Tuesday and I stopped by David's. We had a lovely little lady named Kiki help us who was just very nice and sweet. I think that made my experience that much better. B/c the lady at the front desk gave me a catalog and said pick 3 to try on... so we did and KiKi was super helpful.

Did we find anything? Yes, we found one or two that could suffice... notice i'm not super duper excited, but then again... maybe I just haven't found the one yet? The one i did like was a street size 6 that was OBVIOUSLY too small but KiKI said "let's try it anyways". AND we all liked it even though it was WAY too tight on me and didn't even zip up. Sadly, at David's you can't just order one without buying one. And i don't think i'm ready to commit to a dress i haven't really seen on me in a flattering non breath-restricting way...

Have any of you tried Davids? How was your experience?

  1. I had a wonderful experience at David's...but it was all bc I had a wonderful sales lady helping me - she put up with my quirky, indecisive ways beautifully :) If I would have had the lady who was helping the other girl, it would have been a horirble experience - the look on that poor girl's face! Anyway, I ended up getting my dress, the BM dress, and the Jr. BM dress there. They got a little pushy at the end, but that's where my mama's pit-bull personality came in handy :) Good luck with dresses! Keep us posted on what you find!!!!

  2. I had to purchase my bridesmaid dress for my cousins wedding from Davids. They were very rude to me and really didn't want to give me the time of day. They didn't want me to try on my bridesmaid dress before I ordered it but after my mom and soon-to-be mother-in-law jumped down the nasty ladies throat they finally let me try it on. I will never set foot in that store again due to the way we were treated that day.

  3. I think what bothered me about David's was the assembly line feeling. I went in wanting to look at bridesmaids dresses for myself but we were pretty much laughed at and told that none of theirs came in white.

Not to mention the high pressure sale to buy all their other crap. Didn't work on me but I could see other brides buckling.

  4. When my best friend was getting married, we went to David's...they have lovely dresses, but it's always busy. She ended up getting her dress elsewhere because she wanted a more "calm" dress purchasing experience..lol.

  5. I had my BMs order their dresses there and the dresses are great, but the service was not so great. The people there were rude and they messed up some of the orders. They also wouldn't let two of my BMs try on their dress b/c they didn't have appointments, even though it was a Tuesday night!

If I were you I would keep looking.

  6. I got my dress, bridesmaid dresses, jr bridesmaid dresses, and flower girl dresses there. The lady we had was great. Therewas one lady that was terrible and I got in a fight with her... Ooops... but I won! :) hehe Don't MESS with a stressed out bride!!!

  9. I got my dress from David's and it was a fine dress... and the people were ok. However, if I had it to do over again, I would have gone boutique shopping with my mom. I would have spent the time looking, trying on, enjoying the process instead of quickly rushing it. Hindsight is 20/20 and that is one of the things I regret not doing ;~)

  10. My experience with David's was so so. I did not buy my dress there but I do know of other Bride's that have and were very happy.

  11. At minimum, they have to let you be able to breathe, right?

  12. I have been to David's Bridal twice as a bridesmaid. Luckily, neither bride ended up getting the dresses at David's--I've heard horror stories about their high alteration prices and other weird ordering policies.

Now that I'm a bride-to-be, it's the juxtaposition of the assembly line feel and the once-in-a-lifetime experience feel that I can't get my mind around.

  13. I've only experienced the online version, but my gf who lives in the States says she loves it. I think mainly for the prices.

  15. I went to search for bridesmaid dresses at the Rockville location. I went on a weekday evening with no appointment, and they let me alone, they weren't pushy or anything. But there wasn't anything worth trying on that evening! LOL We ended up getting our dresses at AT instead.

  16. Have you tried contacting any other David's store nearby to see if they carry a 6?
