How to pick a veil

So we know that i've looked at veils before and now that I have picked my dress (Click Here to read about it) it's time to start thinking about the veil... Now, i have always loved the dramatic veils. The birdcage is the short chic but dramatic veil (which i explored here) ... and I'm such a fan of the Mantilla veils (which i explored here). So it should be no surprise... that I, a person torn between traditional and eccentric, really wants to make a statement with my veil.  And of course, considering what my dress looks like (here) and that it is an outdoor wedding, i'm thinking... simple, elegant, subtle... yet dramatic. (I guess the Aquarian nature of being contrary comes out lol).

So i reached out and enlisted the help of the amazing Candi from Crowning Glory Designs.  Suggested by many knotties and with rave reviews everywhere, I reached out to Candi b/c although she is based out of southern California, she has worked with many brides all over via email. And they all seemed super happy with her work. Her prices are BEYOND reasonable... probably 1/4 of what you'd pay at a store, so if you get what you want and pay a great price for it, how could you not be happy.

So here are a few things she asked me to think about:
  • Color : Light Ivory - The dress I got is a light ivory Lace, so i definitely want the colors to match.
  • Edging - (The choices are a plain cut edge, flat satin trim, embroidered pencil edge, beaded edges and lace.) Because the dress is an all over lace, i think simple is definitely better in this situation.  So that definitely would knock the lace option out. So simple beaded edge, plain cut edge, flat satin trim or pencil edge... hmmm... What would you do?
  • Length - I want a cathedral length veil - This means the veil should extend about 5" past the edge of my train.  Since Candi custom cuts each veil, i have to measure myself in my dress with my shoes on and get the exact measurement.  All I need is the measurement from the point where I plan to place my veil to the end of the dress.  Add 5" and I'll have the perfect cathedral measurement.
  • Number of Tiers - Am I thinking of wearing a blusher?  If so, Should I have Candi make my longer tier detachable?  She can make them detachable so that , Just before I walk down the aisle, my longer tier can be added.  Just having to deal with the shorter tier makes it easier to get dressed, get into a car and maneuver, right?  Also, if I want to wear a veil into the reception, but don't want to deal with the loooong tier, it can be removed. Hmmm... do i?
  • Embellishements - (Scattered crystals, scattered pearls (or a comb of those), lace appliques....anything I would like added to the body of the veil.) Hmm.... i guess it'll depend on all the stuff above, but i'm thinking ... the dress would probably call for simple.
So what do you think? Do you have any suggestions for the type of veil i should get? Although I am pretty sure I want the Cathedral Veil, do you have any other suggestions that would work well with the dress I picked? Since i've still got a little time, the sky is still the limit :)

There's one thing you didn't consider! I've fallen in love with the scalloped edge veil. I think it adds something to the overall look.

Ack, I haven't even tried on a veil yet! I really want to wear a french lace cage veil (they're sold like gangbusters on Etsy) but I want to try something on before I buy it and I can't find a bridal store that sells them. Any help from the brides in NYC on this one???

Some veils are just gorgeous.
I don't think I'd be brave enough to have a cathedral length one myself though
