My main concern in getting married was that any offspring would carry a single family name (none of this Jenkowicz-Ashenputtle hypho crapola). My wife agreed, and stipulated that she looked forward to being known as Mrs. [my name] [family name].
Then she mentioned that she was *not* going to give up her name...
In the end--and after many a Guinness with her dad (and to the outrage of, weirdly, my mother and grandmother and sisters--all of whom, really, did the same):
*I* took *her* name.
